Points System
To be an active member of Kappa Delta Pi, you must complete a minimum of 20 points per academic year beginning in September. This translates to 10 points earned per semester (Sept. through Dec. and Feb. through May). As part of your ten points, you must attend at least 1 of each of the following events per semester: social, community service, and professional development (unless you are student teaching- see details below.!!! Student teachers receive 8 points for the semester. Please e-mail KDP@salisbury.edu if you are student teaching.
The service points can be earned through these activities:
| Attending a KDP general meeting | 1 point/month |
| Serving as a committee member | 1 point/month |
| Serving as a committee chair | 2 points/month |
| Student teaching | 8 points for the semester |
| Volunteering as school liaison | 2 points per semester |
| Volunteering for KDP sponsored event | 1 point/hour |
| Volunteering for a non-KDP sponsored event | 1 point total for the event |
| Participating in a fundraiser | 1 point for each $25 profit |
| Purchasing supplies for raffle basket | 1/2 point for $5 (max amt. you can buy and get pts is $10) |
| Soda can tabs (20)**** | 1/2 point |
| Box Tops (10)**** | 1/2 point |
| Campbell's Soup Labels (10)**** | 1/2 point |
| Used printer cartridge**** | 1/2 point |
****These items may only account for 5 points total****
KDP Sponsored Events: Events that originate as a KDP group activity (example: Story Time), larger organization activities that KDP participates in as a group (example: Relay for Life, Fun Day, etc.) and any other event announced as a KDP sponsored event
Non-KDP Sponsored Event: Any other event that is opened to the group. Examples: Eastern Shore Reading Council, Riall Lecture, etc.
Student Teachers: You must attend one meeting and one approved social or community service event even if you are graduating in December. This would give you the ten points (with your 8 student teaching points) needed to graduate in good standing with KDP.
Any service other than those listed above must be brought to the attention of the executive committee for consideration and point calculation.
Your service points must be calculated on a Kappa Delta Pi Point Sheet. Extras can found on the KDP bulletin board and they must be turned into the KDP mailbox outside Dr. Dean's office.
