Frequently Asked Questions
1. What exactly is formal Recruitment?
2. How does Phi Mu fit into the scheme of things?
3. My parents
and I are really worried about hazing. Will I be hazed? Salisbury has a no tolerance hazing policy. Phi Mu, as well has a national policy against hazing. You will not be hazed at any time while you are a member of Phi Mu Women's Fraternity. If you would like one of our members to answer any of your parents' questions please feel free to contact us! 4. What are the
financial obligations of being a member? Financial obligations during the first semester of joining will be the most that you will pay while a member of Phi Mu. We work with our chapter members to form payment plans to make sure everyone can pay on time. 5. My
grandmother was a Phi Mu at another school. Does that make me a legacy?
Do I need to do anything? Yes, you are considered a legacy by our national office. Phi Mu considers you a legacy if your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, half-sister, or stepmother was an initiated member of Phi Mu. When filling out the Formal Recruitment Info sheet note that you are a legacy and give your relation to that person. 6. I keep hearing
about philanthropies. What are they? Phi Mu sponsors the Children's Miracle Network as their national philanthropy. Depending on the needs of the philanthropy, each chapter holds various events to raise money for them or to work closely one-on-one with them. Any money we raise for CMN goes to the John Hopkins Children's Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.. In addition to CMN, we do many service projects around Salisbury. The Phi Delta chapter annually participates in Relay for Life, Night of the Living Zoo, The Big Event, Fun Day, and several other philanthropic activities. 7. Will I have time
to be involved in other campus organizations or have a job? Yes. As a matter of fact, Phi Mu highly encourages our women to be involved in other organizations on campus, and many of our sisters have jobs working 3-4 days a week and are involved in many other campus organizations or in the community. 9. My parents are
really worried about my grades. Will they suffer if I join a sorority? That's a good question. In most cases, grades will go up. Phi Mu, like every other chapter at Salisbury has a GPA requirement to join their chapter and stay active. Phi Mu also has a scholarship program, which helps to maintain grades. Phi Mu currently has the highest GPA of all the sororities on campus, a 3.0. If you would like a chapter member to answer any of your parents' questions please feel free to contact us! 10. What are some of
the qualities I'll gain from joining a sorority? There are so many things you can gain from being in a sorority during your collegiate years. Some of the main ones though are leadership, time management, service, teamwork, and the list goes on and on. During recruitment don't be afraid to ask the ladies what they have gained from being in their respective chapters.
11. Why is Phi Mu a "fraternity"? Phi Mu is considered a fraternity because we were founded in 1852, which was before the word "sorority" even came into existence. We are the second oldest continuous college organization for women!
