About SAFERIDE
What is SAFERIDE Anyway?

The Salisbury University SAFERIDE program began in 1993 to help students receive safe rides home on the weekend. In the years since its inaugural ride, SAFERIDE has undergone many changes, but its mission has stayed the same: to promote late-night safety by providing free, reliable transportation in the hope that tragedy will be averted for students and the surrounding community.

The Salisbury University Student Government Association and Salisbury University Police have worked alongside SAFERIDE since the beginning and continue to assist with the program today.

Over the years the program has gradually expanded, from nights when two or three students would call for a ride to the present as roughly 600 students ride SAFERIDE each weekend!

The addition of cellular phones, computers, and community sponsorship and involvement over the years has helped SAFERIDE evolve into the program it is today.

SAFERIDE works hard every semester to add new exciting additions to better our service. This semester we are giving each of our employees a staff shirt to wear during the nights they work and we also have a better database for the computer.

The future for SAFERIDE holds an advanced two-way communication system for the vans, a designated driver program, and additional alcohol education and community involvement, among other things. Ideally, SAFERIDE hopes for even more community sponsorship and would like to expand its growing party registration program.

As you can tell, SAFERIDE has changed greatly in the fourteen years since its inception. Although now quite a different program than when it began, SAFERIDE's vision remains the same - to create a safer Salisbury community by taking a pro-active stance toward drinking and driving.
