using saferide frequently asked questions about using saferide How do I get a ride? Call us! (410)-677-5000 will connect you to a Saferide dispatcher during our hours of operation. Is Saferide free? Yes! Saferide is absolutely free to ride. Who can use Saferide? Salisbury University students may use Saferide. Our employees reserve the right to refuse service to anyone unwilling or unable to display a Gull Card. How long do I have to wait for a ride? Typically, you will receive a ride within 30 minutes of calling. On busy nights, your ride may take up to an hour. It is always best to call in advance of when you must leave a location so that you aren't screwed if your ride is a bit late. Why hasn't my ride come? Saferide transports anywhere from 150 to 300 students on a typical night. That is 450 to 900 students each weekend! Things get busy and vans get backed up. Please be patient. Also, if you are not on the lookout for our van, they may attempt to pick you up, but pass by (especially if they have other calls to run)! Make sure you are waiting by a window or outside so you SEE the van when it comes. Can I be kicked off of Saferide? Absolutely. Employees in the field may kick you off if you are being disruptive or refuse to cooperate with their instructions or Saferide rules. How far from campus can Saferide pick me up / take me? Saferide operates within a 2 mile radius of the Salisbury University campus. We make few exceptions for students in dire need of a ride outside of our boundaries. Where can Saferide pick me up? Saferide can pick you up from anywhere within our 2 mile radius except campus and the streets, and instersections directly surrounding it (such as Loblolly, W. College & Camden, Dogwood, etc.). This includes restaurants, bars, houses, intersections...and yes, we'll pick you up from Lighthouse. Where can Saferide take me? Saferide can take you HOME. Not to a party, not to your friends house (unless you are with that friend), not to an address that you can give us but can not direct us to, not to a bar, restaurant, gas station, or video store. We'd love to, but we can't. If we find out you are trying to go to a place that is not where you reside, we will remove you from our van. Why did the van pass me? Maybe you moved from where you originally called? Maybe you didn't look interested when the driver slowed down to see if you wanted a ride? Or maybe the van you saw wasn't dispatched to your location...there are four vans ya know? ...There are many other reasosn you may have been passed. To help ensure we don't leave you hangin', be on the lookout for the van and wave it down when you see it! Can I file a complaint? Of course! Simply Email saferide@salisbury.edu with the subject line "Complaint". A team leader will read your complaint and respond to it appropriately. No, seriously - I've been waiting forever. Where is my ride?! Your van may have come already (especially if you weren't diligently looking out!) There are many other reasons a van may not reach you within a convenient amount of time - too many to list here. Your best bet is to call back and politely ask the dispatcher to check the status of your ride. He / she should be able to call the van that was assigned to you and attempt to expedite your pickup. Can Saferide take me to Taco Bell? Unfortunately, Saferide is unable to remedy your late-night munchies. We may only take you HOME. When I call Saferide, who am I talking to? You're talking to a dispatcher that is hiding out in the trees in front of Blackwell Library with nothing but a cell phone and netbook for taking calls and dispatching vans. The dispatchers are not on any of the vans. Are Saferide drivers cops? No. Saferide is managed by students, and only employs students like a campus club or registered student organization (RSO). We do not report parties to the police, nor do we record the names of individuals that ride our vans. |
