at a glance
Saferide is managed entirely by a team of ten team leaders that employ around 60 students each semester. The program is meant to reduce incidents related to driving under the influence by giving students a free and safe ride home on the weekends. Saferide continues to grow by slowly adding vans to its fleet and steadily increasing the number of students transported each weekend.

mission and vision
Mission: to promote late-night safety by providing free, reliable transportation in the hope that tragedy will be averted for students and the surrounding community.

Vision: to create a safer Salisbury community by taking a pro-active stance toward drinking and driving.

est. 1993
Originally chartered by Salisbury University's Student Government Association (SGA), Saferide was established in 1993.

At its inception, the program served very few students - two or three a night. Gradually, Saferide has worked its way up to serving over 8,000 students per academic year, increasing the number of vans in operation from one to four. The fourth van was added Fall 2009.

The technology that Saferide relies on to serve the student body has advanced as well. Originally, employees relied on walkie-talkies for dispatch. Now, computers, cell phones, and most recently, GPS systems have been added to get the job done.

future of saferide...
The future of Saferide holds many exciting additions to the program. Aside from new vans, the aquisition of new technology and equipment may include a more advanced method of dispatch and communication between vans in order to expedite service to students.

Saferide continues to increase its budget each fiscal year in order to meet the demand for hiring new employees#091477 and other expenses the program incurs.
