SAGE is dedicated to working for local, national, and international gender equality.

Student Activists for Gender Equality envisions a world free of inequality, be it social, cultural, political or economic. We invite individuals of all backgrounds to join us, at the grass-roots level, so that we can do away with the systems that separate us.

If Alexis is making your eye twitch, go to her blog and tell her so, nicely.

Background:

Started in 2007 by the venerable Leah Dyson, SAGE began as a small group but a small group with big ambition. It has grown in leaps and bounds. In the spring semester of 2008, we had guest speaker Inga Muscio, author of the books Autobiography of a Blue-Eyed Devil and Cunt, come out from Seattle to give a speech. It was a well attended lecture and it gave us hope that we could persuade other leaders for women's rights to talk to our community. At the end of March, most of the members of SAGE were fortunate enough to see famed women's rights activist Gloria Steinem in Baltimore and learn from a woman who has accomplished so much.

In the fall semester of 2008, SAGE worked in a number of capacities trying to bring about awareness of gender issues and ways to solve them. Women's History Month was orchestrated well with professors and guests giving talks, teaching 18th century dancing, and a number of other fun events. President Jeff Lunnen and SAGE worked tirelessly with on-campus organizations to bring New York Times Bestselling author Koren Zailckas to campus in April to speak about her book. It was quite a success and will live on in SAGE history as a goal to work towards.

If you have a link to share about gender equality, please email SAGE and it will be posted.
