COMMUNITY SERVICE ACTIVITIES AND CONVENTIONS
2006 Relay
For Life Sponsored by the American Cancer Society
We raised $1,150.00 for 2006 Relay for Life!!!! Thanks to everyone who donated!!!!
What It Is: Relay For
Life is a team relay event to raise awareness of cancer in the community and to
raise funds to fight back against cancer! It
is a round the clock celebration of life honoring cancer survivors while also
remembering those who have died from cancer and proclaiming hope for a
cancer-free future! While the relay
is going on, a community party atmosphere is created by team members camping
out, enjoying entertainment, food, games and camaraderie. Participants: Teams of
8-10 people from businesses, hospitals, civic groups and families take turns in
the relay. One member at a time
walks or runs around the track in 30 minute shifts.
Teams make a commitment to having one team member on the track at all
times round the clock. Individual Incentive Prizes: This is a
donation event. Each team member is
asked to contribute a $10 registration fee and raise a minimum of $100 from
donors before the event. Every
registered participant receives a T-shirt.
Additional incentive prizes are awarded to those who raise more money.
The top team fund-raiser and top individual fund-raiser will receive
grand prizes at closing ceremonies on Saturday. Team Challenge: Team members
are asked to raise at least $100. This
works out to $1000 per team. Why We Do It: Cancer
touches everyone in some way. This
is an opportunity for the entire community to get involved. Today, one out of two patients diagnosed with cancer survives.
Relay For Life will proclaim that cancer
can and will be beat! Highlights
of the event include the Opening
Ceremonies, the Survivors First Lap
and the Luminary Ceremony to remember
those who lost their battle with cancer and to honor cancer survivors.
