Underwriting is the term used to describe monetary
support given to a non-commercial radio station by business and
individuals. As a non-commercial station, the FCC prohibits WXSU 96.3
from airing qualitative statements about for-profit organizations and
businesses. Non-profit organizations are exempt from this particular
FCC regulation. In addition, WXSU cannot broadcast a call to action;
nor can we mention prices. If you watch PBS or listen to National
Public Radio you have seen and heard underwriting in action; for
example: "Funding for today's programming has been made possible by
Amoco."
WXSU exists solely to serve the students of Salisbury University and
its surrounding community. When a business supports WXSU, that
business is linked to the listeners mind with what we do. With
underwriting, people do remember that you have supported our
increasingly-popular radio station.
Why Underwrite?
-
Underwriting announcements are unobtrusive and WXSU
will only air up to two announcements per hour.
-
It’s inexpensive!
-
With your underwriting contribution to WXSU, you
will help us continue our popular college student-oriented
programming.
-
It will open the door for you and your organization
to attend and openly promote your business at our popular on-campus
events!
How to Underwrite:
To underwrite with us, a minimum donation is required. Based on the
amount of your donation, you will be provided with “credits” for
on-air mentions. With each “credit”, WXSU will mention your business
or organization on the air during our more popular programming times
(normally afternoon-drive times and into the evening). Each mention
lasts up to 20-seconds and is produced free of charge here at WXSU.
There is a minimum commitment for underwriting at 38 credits.
WXSU will try to make the underwriting process as easy as possible! A
simple Underwriting Agreement is provided for you, clearly outlining
the amount of your donation and how many credits you receive in
return. You will be able to read over and approve of the script before
it is produced and aired.
Basic announcements aired on WXSU will mention:
-
Your organization or business name
-
Your product line or services
-
Contact information (Address Phone, Fax, or website)
-
Other optional information (further information must
be thoroughly discussed)
