  •   Mission Statement:

     Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation provides support for scholastic, educational, philanthropic and leadership development projects and programs.  We also provide leadership development training for collegiate members and advisors, educational programming and speakers, and scholarships.  We support breast cancer awareness by backing all organizations committed to breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.

    * Breast Cancer Awareness and Education *

    Today, this is our National Philanthropy.  In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha adopted the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as our national philanthropy, but have since changed this to include other breast cancer educational means.

    We are dedicated to helping any organization affiliated with breast cancer awareness, and education.  Each year we do our part to raise money for our partners in the fight to increase awareness and to help find a cure for breast cancer.

    * Susan G. Komen for the Cure *

    ZTA began an association with Susan G. Komen for the Cure in 1992 when it became the first national sponsor of the Race for the Cure’s National Series Breast Cancer Survivor Recognition Program.

    The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® series has become the largest series of 5K runs in the nation, held in 99
    cities across the country in 1999 with over 600,000 participants expected.

    Proceeds from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Series fund both national research efforts and local breast
    cancer initiatives. A majority of the proceeds fund local community programs related to breast
    health education, screening and treatment and are based on specific area needs determined by
    local Komen Foundation representatives.

    The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people,
    ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

    The ZTA Foundation has donated more than $1.6 million to Komen for the Cure since 1992. Additionally, more than 5,000 Zetas volunteer in excess of 50,000 hours each year to support the more than 100 Race events nationwide.

    Each Fall, our chapter participates in the near-by Race with all of our girls in hopes of raising at least $100 per sister.  This year's race was in Hunt Valley, Maryland and was a great success!

    * Relay for Life *

    The Theta Delta Chapter also participates in the Relay for Life® walk each spring.  Relays are currently taking place in 23 countries with more then 4,800 community events.  Millions across the world are involved with this organization to help support the American Cancer Society.  Each relay is an extremely moving and powerful experience that everyone should attend at least once, so come out this spring and help fight for life!

    * Mr. Zeta Pageant *

    Theta Delta hosts the Mr. Zeta Pageant, a male beauty contest, each fall.  It is the largest philanthropic fundraiser we sponsor each year.

    Men from different campus organizations pay an entry fee to participate in a variety of different contests, such as Best Pick-up Line, Talent, Evening Wear, Swimsuit, and a Question and Answer Session. Each contestant has a female escort who participates in the hopes that her man wins.  In addition to a myriad of prizes bestowed upon Mr. Zeta, he receives gift baskets filled with items from local businesses.

    In the past, the chapter has also held a “Best Legs Contest” where audience members placed change in separate buckets that featured a picture of each contestant’s legs, but did not indicate whose legs they were. The winner received a special plaque recognizing his achievement.  We have also done “Penny Wars” where each contestant is assigned a bucket and audience members donate change to whichever contestant’s bucket they feel should be Mr. Zeta.  Pennies count toward the balance, but silver coins count against the total.  Whoever has the highest amount of money receives points toward their overall total.

    Judges, ranging from campus professors to ZTA alumnae rank the men in each category.  After the group is narrowed down to five contestants, the men answer a question from a fishbowl.  The man with the most points is crowned Mr. Zeta for the year.

    Mr. Zeta is then invited to attend ZTA sisterhood events, our annual Thanksgiving Dinner, and our banquet!  He is also invited back to the next year’s pageant so he can crown his successor!

    Congratulations to this year's Mr. Zeta -

    Kyle Wilhite
